I’m Seth Mullins, author of The Authors of This Dream and Ophia’s Sister-Soul. I write speculative fiction, stories born of the merging between the seen and the unseen.
With the complexity of these times and the immensity of our challenges, we need to learn to trust our inner guidance in order to navigate our lives.
In a world that can feel too tangled for any clean master plan, inner guidance becomes our one reliable compass. It helps us find our bearings when we’ve lost sight of all shores. Human intuition was always meant to uphold and support logical thinking. Our dreaming consciousness and inner knowing open to avenues that reason can’t reach, and it is this wellspring of wisdom and insight that holds answers to questions that most deeply concern us now.
This is why my protagonist, Esperidi, is cast adrift. With every outer support gone, she has no recourse but to turn inward, to learn to interpret and trust the guidance of her dreams and intuitions. Her quest unfolds one step at a time, guided by quiet directives: “Go this way. Ask about this. Trust this person. Steer clear of that one.”

We artists ache to explore the frontiers of consciousness because we need to embrace more than just a reflection of the world that surrounds us. We need to offer up a new vision of what could be.
An Age Without Maps: Visionary Fiction and Our Inner Compass
We live inside a paradigm so complex that the intellect, however brilliant, cannot hold the whole pattern. In an age without maps, the inner compass speaks in quieter ways: intuition, dreams, and mythic storytelling. In visionary fiction, inner guidance can be dramatized as plot itself: The moment outer certainty disappears, something deeper makes itself felt.
Gnostic Philosophy Versus the Authority of God
To trust our inner nature and guidance is not to deny divinity, but rather to honor the divinity that expresses and discovers itself as us.
Gnosis, derived from the Greek word for knowledge, refers, in the broader sense, to inner knowing, a sense of our personal connection with divinity. It implies trust in self, personal responsibility, and reverence for the environment that surrounds us—that environment being an extension of ourselves.

We long to give voice to our inner sense of knowing here and now, as the world lurches towards some half-conceived ideal of what could be. Misfits are both impractical and necessary. We travel a thorny path, one that demands the courage to name our dreams aloud even at the risk of looking like fools.
Relax and Trust the Unseen Source
Humanity is embarked upon a night-sea journey to an undiscovered country. Only the heart’s GPS guides us true. It reminds us that the treasure does not always arrive in the packaging the mind expects. The unseen source can’t always be traced or explained.
But we can feel it—and learn to lean on it when we’ve reached the limits of what our minds can comprehend.
Shamanism, Wounds, and the Search for What Endures
If a shaman could really navigate from the physical world to the spirit world and perceive the evidence that consciousness endures after bodily death, that would reassure us all that there was ultimately no reason to grieve. What better way to transcend bereavement than to perceive the proof that nothing is actually lost in the universe?
The shaman's wisdom tells us that everything that exists possesses consciousness and all consciousness endures.
Backroads to Myth: How a Desert Hike Sparked My Creative Process and Inspired My Novel
What happens when the road ahead appears insurmountable, and nothing out of the whole sweep of your past can offer guidance or encouragement? When you come to that juncture, your only salvation lies in finding a new conception of self. Maybe you need to dispense with definitions entirely. The hurdle, after all, might be insurmountable in the eyes of who you were. But that person is not the same one who’s standing here now, and such odds may be entirely meaningless to the person you’re becoming.
That becoming is the creative process.
